For those who still are in the Stone Age

Emmeline Pankhurst was a well-known British reformer who fought for women’s rights at home and abroad. She was particularly determined to gain the right to vote, or suffrage, for women. To gain publicity for her cause and to protest the treatment of women, she and her supporters staged hunger strikes and even destroyed private property. In 1913 she gave a speech titled “Why We Are Militant” to the Women’s Political and Social Union in New York City. At that time women were still not allowed to vote in either the United States or Great Britain. The following is an excerpt from the speech.

“All my life I have tried to understand why it is that men who value their citizenship as their dearest (most valued) possession seem to think citizenship ridiculous when it is to be applied to the women of their race. And I find an explanation, and it is the only one I can think of. . . . A thought came to me in my prison cell, and it was this: that to men women are not human beings like themselves. Some men think we are superhuman; they put us on pedestals; they revere (worship) us; they think we are too fine and too delicate to come down into the hurly-burly (rough) conditions of life. Other men think us sub-human (less than human); they think we are a strange species unfortunately having to exist for the perpetuation (continued existence of) of the race. They think that we are fit for drudgery (boring and unpleasant work), but that in some strange way our minds are not like theirs, our love for great things is not like theirs, and so we are a sort of sub-human species.

We are neither superhuman nor are we sub-human. We are just human beings like yourselves.
When we were patient, when we believed in argument and persuasion, they said, “You don’t really want it [equality] because, if you did, you would do something unmistakable to show you were determined to have it.” And then when we did something unmistakable they said, “You are behaving so badly that you show you are not fit for it.”

Now, gentlemen, in your heart of hearts you do not believe that. You know perfectly well that there never was a thing worth having that was not worth fighting for. You know perfectly well that if the situation were reversed, if you had no constitutional rights and we had all of them, if you had the duty of paying and obeying and trying to look as pleasant, and we were the proud citizens who could decide our fate and yours, because we knew what was good for you better than you knew yourselves, you know perfectly well that you wouldn’t stand for it a single day, and you would be perfectly justified in rebelling against such intolerable (unacceptable) conditions.”

Lost In Topics

It’s 10.12. They’re arguing again. Why do they always argue? Don’t they know that it’s too stressful?

Anyways, I had guitar today, as I said before. He was cool. We laughed a lot. I’m going to spare you the details because we talk about really random stuff. Even if I told you how random the topics were, you’d be lost by the first topic.

I wonder if what I just said made any sense...

I’m stopping guitar classes for awhile until my finals are done. I’ll go back in September. Next week will be my last class.

:(

Some sacrifices just has to be made.

Next week, after the last class, I’ll say “I’ll be back” and walk straight out the door.

Ha Ha! BYE!

Me and Hair

Well, the party I thought of having this weekend had been cancelled. I just realized that I have a lot of work to do. GAH! It’s killing me. I have my school work to do, the EYAA award is coming soon; I have to get my record book and portfolio together by July and I also have to prepare the speech for it. SPEECH. I hate that word.

I’m at school now. It’s lunch time. I’m so tired.

You know, just a random thought, I like guys with nice hair. They look even better when they’ve just gotten out of bed. I call it the ‘straight out of bed’ look. Look, look, look!
Muahaha....

I have guitar lessons today, he’s going to kill me.

=O
Anyways, I’m going to go back to my school work now. Bye!

Happy Birthday to me!

I'm 16!

*

*

Who DOESN't love this girl! I LOVE YA MONIJA!
*
*
Hello there! Gosh, I’ve had such a great day! Yeah, it’s my birthday! I’ve finally turned 16! And my mom’s turned; I don’t think she wants me to tell. But I’ve had such a great time today. I was half asleep though.
*
*
This morning, at about 6.30, I was dragged out of bed by some three really crazy giggling girls. My mom was also brought out. We were forced to close my eyes and were brought outside unto the porch. When I opened my eyes, I saw muffins in a shape of the number 16, each of them had lighted up candles on them. It was an awesome sight. Monija, Meyshna and Daneeta were there. Ron also helped! Thanks NA! =) They planned this for me!! It was so nice. I wasn’t really expecting much and they gave me such joy. I love you girls!
*

POSE FOR THE MUFFINS! We ate till we were sick to our stomach's!
*

Monija then brought out this cute cake about ½ a kg. It was so pretty. My mom cut the cake and then it was taken away. At least, that’s what I thought. The next thing I knew was that I got cake smashed on my face. That totally woke me up. Ha ha. I had cake in my hair and face. Of course, I didn’t want to waste it so I licked most of it up. I also got another wish list of mine fulfilled. I washed my hair in a sink. To be exact, the kitchen sink. After I got most cake off, I went back outside. And again, I got my face smashed with cake again, the remainder of it. I tried ducking but I still got some on my face. So then I washed it off outside. Monija grabbed the hose and sprayed me down. I got her a little wet too. Ha ha! I had to lend her my shirt after that. After my bath, we exchanged gifts.

*

*

After washing my hair, it still smelled like cake. Meyshna just couldn't resist it. If I didn't stop her, she would have eaten my hair!! :P

*
Ron gave me 3 different sizes of hoop earrings and a really nice bracelet. I really like them. Thanks na!

*

Mummy got me a black scarf that will go with the dresses I’ve got. It’s really soft; it’s from Park Avenue - Parkson. She also got these earrings shaped like a key with a crown on top; Ron helped her pick, that’s from Clarity. She also got me a crystal bracelet from Wah Chan. Fuyoooo! I know!

*
*

I got Mummy a grey and silver scarf, a pair of heart shaped earrings and I gave her the voucher from Starbucks I got from Camporama. I don’t like coffee. It’s a buy one free one beverage coupon. =)

*
*

Smile! (Nothing better to do!)
*
fter everything, Daneeta had to go home. Later, Monija, Meyshna, Ron, Vimesshen, Uncle Ravi, Aunty Vimala, Mummy and I went for brunch at Munch Corner. I had a roti chanai and some fried rice. I ate quite abit. I’m feeling so fat now.

*
had so much fun today. The best surprise birthday party ever! Thank you everyone!

*
*

*
nd thank you to all the others who have wished me today. I love ALL of you!
*
k, other than my birthday, I came back from Camporama yesterday afternoon!

*
*

*
I woke up at 6 on Wednesday and Jo picked me up and we went together. At camp, Jo and I were together 24 hours a day. I’m serious, exactly 24 hours. We didn’t go anywhere without each other. We did every single thing together. I had so much fun!
*
*
On the first night, we had to dress up in our Indian outfit. We looked smashing. All the girls noticed us but I don’t think any boys did. Bummer. Ha ha. Anyways, Jo and I wore sari’s. Mine was a little different. I really enjoyed it. Did you know that the camp only happens once in four years?? That means that I’ll be 20 if I go for the next one. =O I may go.

*
*

*
Oh, and also, happy belated birthday to Oliver and Aunty Swee Bin, it was yesterday. Happy birthday to Mummy, Ashoke and Joshua! My uncle’s birthday is tomorrow. Wow, so many birthdays!

*
*
I’m planning to have a little party next week. I’m going to invite about 20 people. They’re all my close friends. I don’t know why I’m telling you all this. Hope you find it entertaining. =)

*

Well, HAPPY BIRTHDAY YALL!!

It appears that I'm dumb

Yooo hooo there! I’m off to Camporama tomorrow morning!

Jo’s going to pick me up. She told me to get ready by 6.45! That’s way too early! I’ve been waking up really late this past week. Well, I’m going to sleep early today.

Well, I’ve packed everything already. I’m so excited! I tried packing minimum. I hate taking so many things with me. I’ve seen some kids bringing they’re whole wardrobe. I’m serious! They bring a travelling bag!

Okay, I’m going out for dinner now. I feel like eating ABC. Yummy! =D

Oh, I did this quiz on Facebook on “How dumb are you” and it says that I’m very dumb! HAHA It’s so funny. Haha.

ok.

Neighbour's Fart

The most awkward thing happened to me yesterday. I visited my grandma. We went out for lunch with her. I asked Daniel, my cousin, to come along, because I hadn’t seen him for a long time. So well, he didn’t come. It seems that he had an appointment with his dearest bed. *raises eyebrow*

After lunch, we went back to Grandma’s house and had tea. Just as we were leaving, Daniel came. He said he was sorry and he wanted to take me out somewhere or something. He asked my dad, “Uncle Charlie, I wanna take your daughter out”. !!! Ha ha. Everyone was there when he asked. I could hear the neighbour fart. They were all quiet. Then all of a sudden, everyone started talking at the same time. “What are they thinking?” “But you’re first cousins!” Then everyone stopped. My dad said, “Ok, Dan, I let you date my daughter.” What the HELL!?? He didn’t want to date me; he just wanted to spend time with his cousin. It was super awkward. All of us, Daniel, Kathleen, Marilyn and I were exchanging shocked, ‘what in the world’ glances. It was so funny.

I said no, because I really wanted to get home. And told him we’ll catch up another day. I’m still laughing to it. It’s so weird. I know some very weird people and that’s why I love them. =)
I saw a shooting star today. I made a wish. I really need it to come through. I need a miracle. That’s all. That’s all I’m asking for. It’s not for me; it’s for the whole family. Please, I really need this.

I also want to pray for my friends who are going through a rough time in their life. Just remember, I’m always here if you ever need any help.

2 days till Camporama. 6 days till my mom’s and my birthday.

:)

Daniel and Me? APSSHKK!
xoxo Sonia

Aha Oh Yeah

Oh my gosh! 4 days till Camporama! 8 more days till my birthday! :D

The sleepover was fun! When Jian Lin came, we made pancakes and had it with ice cream and honey! Yummy! Then we went for tennis and swimming. When we came back, we had such a nice dinner; Roasted chicken (thanks to Aunty Swee Bin!), mashed potato and boiled veggie’s.
After that, we watched some tennis but Jian Lin and I watched Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. Although it was my second time watching, it made me laugh, maybe even more than my first time! Aaron Johnson is so CUTE!

After that, the tennis game was still going on, but I couldn’t stay awake anymore so I went to sleep. That was at 1.30. The other’s watched Yes Man! They only slept at 4 I think. I could hear them laughing in the next room.

Well, I woke up at 9.30 the next day. Jian Lin had to leave early for her art class. I really wished she had stayed. My mom sent Ron, Jian Eu, II Ern, Oliver, Leila and me to One Utama. They named me the official guide. Ron wanted to get his ears pierced so I took him there. I couldn’t watch it happening so I stood outside. I heard the *snap* twice, and when it happened, I flinched. *snap* *flinch* *snap* *flinch* *Ron curses politely* I have no idea why he did it. He got one on his left lobe and one at the top part of his ear. I couldn’t look at it. It was too painful. I know, I got mine done last year, but it wasn’t as bad. I remember that my mom couldn’t stand looking at it either. I took pain killer’s right after I got it done. Ha ha.

After that, we went to get the movie tickets. Jian Eu and II Ern couldn’t join us because they were going to go home soon. So we bought 4 tickets. Then we went to Mc D’s for lunch. I had my Mc Chicken set, as usual. I think that’s the only thing I always order there. Oliver filled the drink cover with chilli sauce which was really a waste and it looked really disgusting. I remember Jian Eu sat down where a little girl was sitting. A little girl was actually looking after the seat while her mom went to get the food. When the mom came, she was really pissed. So we gave her a table which she later gave back. Jian Eu can be really blurred at times. Ha ha.

We went back to the cinema and waited for them to let us in. While going in, Jian Eu hid behind Ron and he got in without a ticket! II Ern didn’t follow so Jian Eu had to go back and get him with our two tickets. They had to leave halfway cause they were going home already. Oh, we watched Terminator Salvation! It was actually nice. I’ve always thought that Terminator was boring. I mean, sadly, I can’t really remember the other movies. I should watch them again Terminator Marathon! The part I laughed at was when Arnold Schwarzenegger came out. He was way too big. And he didn’t have any clothes on. Tee hee! I won’t elaborate on that anymore cause it ain’t important.

Christian Bale (John Connor) acted well in it. But he wasn’t my favourite character. I really liked Sam Worthington (Marcus Wright) and Anton Yelchin (Kyle Reese). Ok, yes, I liked Anton because he was cute, I mean, what movie doesn’t have a cute guy in it?? But Sam was good. I just love the good guys!

I cannot forget Jadagrace Berry (Star). That’s the little girl who helped destroy the base of Skynet. She’s so adorable. And I love her hair! It makes her look so adorable.

You know Helena Bonham Carter? She was Dr. Serena Kogan in Terminator. She acted as Marla Singer in Fight Club. That was a nice movie. She was also in Planets of the Apes as Ari. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as Mrs. Bucket, all the Harry Potter movies as Ballatrix Lestrange, Sweeney Todd as Mrs. Lovett. Also, somewhere this year she’ll be in a movie about Enid Blyton. I wanna watch that!

I also got Mom a gift for her birthday. We have the same birthdays! So Does Ashoke and Joshua. It’s cool to know so many people who were born on the same day.

Oh, I’ve been listening to The Good, The Bad & The Queen. Try listening to them, it’s weird but I like it because I myself am equally weird. They’re British. They don’t have a band name, but that’s the name of they’re album. I have no idea why they have no band name.

Ethan’s coming back on the 19th! It’s been 6 months! So long!

Okay! BYE!

Smelly Girl

Hello there! I just came back from tennis. Guess what? I haven’t played for three weeks now.

:O HOW COULD I??!

I know, I know. And I was one hour late for my class. Coach changed the class time from 7 to 6pm. I haven’t been going for three weeks so how would I know. And damn, was he pissed. He was like, “Class starts at 6, Sonia”. How would I know?? But never mind that.

In the car, while coming back, I was listening to the radio and there was this advertisement on how people should start saving. It was about Cinderella. She went, “Hey guys! This is Cinderella here! I’m sure you’ve all read about me being treated like a slave at home and meeting a rich prince and getting married to him and having a ‘happily ever after’ story. Well, things haven’t been very good these days, I have been spending a lot and now my husband has been charged with bank fraud. I should have saved some money!” that’s what the commercial said on the radio.

After that, the next commercial was about travelling in style with these brand new Calvin Klein travelling bags. I mean, just imagine how expensive those bags will be. And I mean, how ironic is it to put it after saving money commercial? That’s weird.

Anyways, I’m stinking. I haven’t had my bath. I thought I’d just make a quick post before I forget it. Well, that’s about it. Oh, and there’s 6 more days to Camporama. And 10 more till my sweet 16. I’m not expecting much, but I’m planning to have a small party, ordering pizza and just talking. Maybe I’ll have it at the park or something. I don’t know, but I’d like to have it there, maybe in Desa Park City.

Oh, oh, oh, I forgot another thing. Jian Lin is coming over tomorrow for a sleepover. Jian Eu, II Ern and Oliver’s also coming I think, not sure. They’re coming to play tennis with Ron. He’s having his own sleepover so I thought I’d have a small one myself. Daneeta might come too. Oh, and JL’s bringing Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. It’s a movie. We watched it in Cineleisure last year and we just adored the movie. So we are going to watch it again.

Ok, I’m going to stop writing now. Haha. Bye!

Maids, Jason, and Dettol

It’s 11.01pm right now and I’m in my room. I just had my bath. Boy, am I tired. I swept and mopped the whole of our downstairs just now. Mom’s having a tennis elbow and no one seems to care how dirty the house is getting. And as usual, I got the stuff done.

I was so mad. I had just come back from the club, and when I come home, this is what I find. No wonder I don’t like coming home. I didn’t eat. I mopped the kitchen and the living room. Then I washed the dishes and wiped the stove. Look’s better now.

I’m staring at Jason Mraz’s poster on my wall right now. He gave an awesome concert. It was totally worth it. And it was also worth sneaking my huge camera in. Well, don’t point your finger at me. My mom told me to hide it under the hat. Haha. The guards didn’t catch me did they? Anyways, when Jason started, all cameras were whipped out and you could see these little lights everywhere. Haha, right in your face GUARDS! That’s what you get when phone’s come with all kinds of things. I know mine doesn’t. I can make calls, take calls, send out SMS’s, receive SMS’s, play Snake, Space Impact, Bantumi and set my morning alarms. It serves me well enough. :)

At the club today, the life guard at the swimming pool said "Hi!" to me so I turned around and replied him “HELLO!” in a fake excited voice which gave him quite a shock. Haha. I’m a weirdo. I like being a weirdo. It makes me feel happy. HAHA. I’m lonely. I miss my school and my other friends.

I have the Camporama on the 10th. It’s going to be so fun. I can’t wait. I’ll be back on the 13th. Oh, and I don’t plan to bathe during those few days because the toilets are horrible. I’ll need to come home and bathe with Dettol. I hope the guys there won’t get shoo-ed away by my filth. I’m being a weirdo again. :D

It's not 11.48pm right now. Bye!
